Journaling on the background, example!

Hello KCB fans, Monique here with my layout featuring last week' journaling idea... to journal straight onto the background. Now I didn't use any of Kristin's things in this layout, I didn't really use anybody's stuff... lol. I decided to keep it real simple, kept the background white, used the eye dropper tool to pull some colour from the photos to put on the page, made my photos really pop, and journaled!

So here it is:

For full layout credits click here.

I'll see you all back here next week for another journaling idea. Maybe next week I'll go back to giving you journaling topics ;-) Have a happy scrappy day everyone!

Team Member Spotlight

Today we'ere spotlighting Leah (paperboutique)
Here's her bio.

I am a Mother to three beautiful children that amaze me with their wonders every single day. We live on an acreage in southwest Manitoba, Canada, with our 3 dogs and 6 cats. I am an in-home child care provider, currently working towards my Early Childhood Education, with the goal of being a Preschool Teacher once our youngest is in school full time.

Why She loves Kristin's Designs-I found Kristin's designs 3 years ago when I found the Sweet Shoppe. Every design of hers fit my scrapping style and my photos perfectly. They quickly went into the "must come to my house...now" and I have continued to just keep adding over the years. LOL

When I asked her about her favorite Kristin kit,she said this- My favorite "Kristin" kit: Gosh...how can I pick just one? I love them all equally.
I gush over every single one. The ones that I use the most are: Sweet Caroline, All About Her and Blossom.

And this is Leah's favorite Layout using Kristin goodies!

4-3-2-1 Recipe Challenge

Hi everyone! I'm so glad to be back with another recipe challenge for you! I'm calling this one the countdown challenge because here at home we are still waiting for winter to really hit us. The weather has been warming up, and the snow has been melting, which is not good for Canada's capital winter festival called Winterlude. We have the world's longest outdoor skating rink here, and I'm afraid that if the weather warms up too much we won't be able to skate this winter. I love skating and am anxious to get on that rink! So for the countdown to real winter weather, here's your challenge:

4 - papers
3 - ribbons
2 - photos
1 - frame

Use that recipe for your layout using Kristin's products and post a link to your layout in the comments. I'll come back and pick one of them at random to win a GC to Kristin's store.

Have fun everyone!

Journaling on the background!

Hey all you KCB fans! It's Monique here with another way to get journaling on your page!

In my first post of the year I told you how you could use a template and swap out a photo for a journaling block, then last week I gave you a template so you could try it. This week I'm going to give you another idea on how to add journaling on your page, and that idea is to...

Journal right on the background!

That's right, choose a simple background and journaling right on it.

You can journal in a column on the side:

layout by gracelikerain

You can cluster photos on the top or bottom of the layout and use the rest of the space for journaling:

Scatter your elements and photos along the edges and display your journaling right in the middle:

Or you can leave the photos out completely and just journal:

I'll be back next week with my own layout using one of the above ideas for journaling right on the background. If you do this, please link me up so I can see! Have a happy scrappy day everyone!

CT Spotlight

Jennifer is in the spotlight today! I asked Jennifer to give us a brief bio on herself and here is what she said:
My name is Jennifer S. Wilson, but I go by StarXLR8 in most forums. I'm a scientist by day and a wife, mom, writer and memory keeper by night. I live in central Illinois with my husband, 2 step kids and 2 pets. Generally, you can find me organizing something, taking photos of my family (or my food) or snuggled in my special chair with the laptop.

How long have you been digi scrapping? What program you use? and what camera?
I'd never really paper scrapped, but was always fascinated with the end result. I discovered the world of digi early in 2008 and started really getting into in that fall. It was late that year that I began my digital scrapbooking blog Simple Scrapper, which has turned into a small side business. I wanted to share my learning process and fun finds with the entire community, especially beginners.

I use PSE 6 for Mac to scrap. We just recently got a family iMac and I'm thrilled to have a little more real estate for my pages. I received a Wacom Bamboo Craft tablet just this weekend and can't wait to try scrapping with it!

This past summer I upgraded to a digital SLR, a Canon XSi. I'm still learning how to leverage all of the manual features, but I am loving the images. For Christmas and my birthday, I added two new lenses to my toolkit, a super wide angle for dramatic landscape shots and a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 for natural-looking indoor shots.

Must have items on your pages?
I am in love with beautiful patterned papers. I love using paper blocking, strips and piecing as a design element. I also totally dig all the flowers and word art strips KCB includes in her kits!

Your favorite layouts & your favorite kits!
It turns out that my favorite digital look is one that mimics traditional scrapbooks. I love a fairly clean page design with pretty papers, vibrant colors and little clusters here and there.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by the details, by noticing, capturing and preserving everything you love, with things you love. I love smiles and smirks. I love kits with lots of little word art bits and fasteners. I love hand-drawn script alphas. I love kraft paper. I love perfectly exposed photos straight out of the camera. I love the light in late afternoon on a blue sky day. Happy memory keeping is a gentle harmony of art, simplicity and productivity.

Personally, I've just started exploring hybrid projects, and it's so much fun! And as you can see, Kristin's products make it so easy, because they print so well, and there are so many fun elements and papers to use. Why not try out making a card using KCB's products this week and see how easy hybrid can be. Link me up with your final project so that I can leave you some love!

Template Freebie!

As promised, I'm back this week with a template freebie to help you with creating layouts filled with journaling!

You can use any template with multiple photo spots to help you add journaling to your layouts, simply substitute one of the photo spots with a journaling card. This also helps you to get more from your templates, rotate or flip them, exchange photos for journaling spots, cut photo spots in half to add 2 photos instead of 1 etc... are all ways of stretching a template to get more from it or to make it work for you.

So here's a free template to help you try out this technique:

Use one of the 3 photo spots for journaling and link me up to your layout so I can see!
